Hawaii

- In 2003, a bill authorizing a $100 million solar bond for state buildings was found unconstitutional by the Attorney General. Subsequently, we switched gears and
and focused on the city of Honolulu. The city sent a representative to our Solar Cities Summit in September 2003, and Mayor Jeremy Harris included a $10 million bond for solar and energy efficiency for city-owned buildings in his proposed 2004-2005 budget. Adam Browning wrote an Op-Ed article (PDF) in the Honolulu Star Bulletin (April 21, 2004), and a $7.85 million bond was approved by city council June 4, 2004.
San Diego
- After a long campaign working with Mayor Dick Murphy and City Councilmembers Donna Frye and Michael Zucchet, a commitment for 50 MW of renewable energy was announced in an op-ed (PDF) in the San Diego Union Tribune (August 7, 2003).
- Bonnie Raitt held a benefit concert for solar bonds in Santa Cruz: Santa Cruz Sentinel "Bonnie Raitt powers solar benefit" (November 15, 2002).
- The City of Fresno is implementing an ambitious solar program: Fresno Bee, "City OKs Huge Solar Project" (PDF) (December 8, 2003).
- Robert Russo, the mayor of Montclair, New Jersey, attended Vote Solar's Solar Cities Summit, and subsequently discussed his city's solar plans with the Montclair Times: "Mayor Robert Russo wants something that San Francisco already has" (October 1, 2003).

About Proposition B
- November 6 was a landmark victory for renewable energy in this country. Proposition B won with a resounding 73% of the vote putting San Francisco on track to become the leading solar city in America.
